Why volunteer?

Being involved enhances the festival experience and sense of community. For many folks, the festival wouldn’t be the same without volunteering. It’s about making it all happen, and getting to know people. Obviously, you save money by helping out in exchange for your festival pass.

Why is there an application fee?

The money goes towards the development, maintenance, and upkeep of the volunteer software, and covers the credit card fees and bank charges on the deposits and refunds.

When can I arrive?

Volunteers can arrive and set up their camps on Wednesday, October 5th, after 2pm.

When is the volunteer meeting? Do I need to come to the volunteer meeting?

The volunteer meeting is on Friday, October 7th, at 9am in the music bowl. All volunteers need to plan on attending the meeting in order to receive training and information. If you do not attend meeting, you will be charged a $20 inconvenience fee.

How much time do I need to commit?

The basic commitment is 12 hours for a 4-day pass. If you choose to work 16 hours, you will also receive free volunteer tent camping (in the main campground this year!). There is also the super volunteer who will receive a festival ticket, free tent camping and 6 catered meals in exchange for 20 hours of work.

Can I register to work in different areas (green team, gates, beer garden etc.) ?

All volunteer work needs to be completed in the same area.

When do I receive my deposit back?

You will receive your deposit back within 10 days after the festival if you have fulfilled your contract.

What if I want to work in an area that requires a join code?

If you have worked with us in an area that needs a join code, email Lynne @ lynnethelen@gmail.com to get that code.

Where will we check in when we get to JTMF?

Check in at the one and only Will Call Booth / Front Office at the festival entrance on Sunfair Road. Please bring your ID and your name will be on the volunteer list.

Why do we have to put down a deposit?

JTMF would not be able to be put on without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. But, we do have to have some assurance that all volunteers will show up to all of their shifts. As long as you show up on time, stay on task, and don’t break any rules, you will get your money back. All deposits will be refunded within 10 business days of the Joshua Tree Music Festival.

What happens if I am relieved of my responsibilities by my supervisor because I am under the influence?

If any Manager feels that a team member is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and can’t perform the assigned duties, the volunteer will be relieved of duties and forfeit the deposit. Absolutely no exceptions will be made or discussed. A team member may also be relieved of duties if the supervisor does not feel the team member has completed duties as requested, or completed their shift at their designated assignment. In this case, said team member will forfeit deposit.

What if I can no longer volunteer?

If you are unable to volunteer, email Lynne directly at: lynnethelen@gmail.com to delete your shifts and get your deposit refunded. A cancellation fee of $25 takes effect on August 15th. A cancellation fee of $50 takes effect on September 1st. Cancel after September 15th and you will forfeit your entire deposit.

Are there opportunities to volunteer other than at the festival?

Camping in the main campground is free if you sign up for the Green Team, Medical, Rangers, or if you volunteer 16 hours (4 shifts). This is TENT CAMPING only, if you'd like to have your car at your camp, you'll need to buy a CAR PASS for $50 (otherwise your car is parked in lower day parking lot). If you only volunteer 12 hours (3 shifts), you get a festival wristband, but would have to pay $50 to camp (tent camp only - no car) in the main campground.
